“Katie's music is always a delight to hear as she puts her heart and soul into each and every track. Her talent shines through. ” - Richard Latto, BBC Radio Solent
Intimate piano-led songwriting with viola, rooted in contemporary folk and modern classical worlds.
Katie .H. Hughes is a soulful singer-songwriter from Glen Clova, Scotland, creating intimate, emotionally rich music led by piano and woven with viola. Formerly releasing music as Katie in the Attic, this rebrand marks a natural evolution - a clearer, more confident expression of her sound and artistic identity.
With a degree in Music Education, Katie blends classical musicianship with heartfelt songwriting, crafting meldoies that resonate deeply with listeners. Her music sits comfortably between contemporary folk, modern classical and acoustic singer-songwriter traditions, designed for seated, listening audiences and immersive live experiences. Spending her teenage years in the Orkney Isles, Katie draws strong inspiration from natures, landscapes, and stillness. These influences shape a sound that is reflective and evocative allowing songs to unfold gently while carrying emotional weight.
Her songwriting explores life, memory and emotion with honesty. Listeners can expect poetic lyrics, textured instrumentation and performances that invite people to slow down and truly listen.
Katie's work has been likened to influences such a John Martyn, Eva Cassedy, Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Joni Mitchel, Tori Amos & Carole King, blending lyrical sensitivity with rich, atmospheric arrangements.
Her music appeals to audiences who value nuance, story telling and emotional connection, over volume. Making it well suited to intimate venues, arts centres, listening rooms, folk clubs and curated events.
